Sunny Glads

Sunny Glads
10x10 Acrylic on 1.5" Gallery Wrap Canvas
SOLD
Gladiolas are such big, lush flowers, I always enjoy painting them. The coral colored Glads on the right are a mixture of several pinks with cad orange and/or cad red. The addition of pink really sparks up the warm cad colors. I often use this mixture for the sunny side of a purely orange bloom. Roses, too, are a great opportunity to make every petal a different shade. Too many colors - so much fun! Instead of mixing white with a base color, I most often try to use an analogous shade to lighten the mixture - orange or yellow to lighten red; purples to darken, etc. Color is a life-long study – and I am hooked. Second and third photo show left and right hand detail of my Sunny Glads. Your comments are always welcome.

If this doesn't put you into a good mood...nothing will! An explosion of joy!
