Purr & Ponder

Purr & Ponder
14x14 Acrylic on 1.5" Gallery Wrap Canvas
SOLD
Purr & Ponder is a revisit from a reference photo I used about six years ago to paint a watercolor entitled Summer Sleep. This time my big Maine Coon has bolder brush strokes and a darker color scheme. Usual palette with the addition of some earth tones of Winsor Newton Burnt Sienna and Liquitex Raw Sienna. The very dark darks are mixed from Prussian Blue, Winsor Violet and Quin Magenta. All three of these colors are transparent and make luscious darks. With the addition of WN Burnt Sienna, which is also a beautiful transparent, the darks can be warmed. Add white to these varying mixtures and the cat's coat comes alive! Beautiful cat greys can be mixed from WN violet and WN Burnt Sienna. I always underpaint the cat's eyes with cad yellow med or dark to make them glow. Blue eyed cats get a special treatment of warm and cool blues and either violets or aqua greens. Your comments are always welcome. Email me at catcards@frontiernet.net to discuss a custom abstract or a personal cat painting for your home or office.
